Top right are some more purple cone flowers.

 

Top center and nearby are red and pink roses.

 

The flowers jutting out are more of the upside down star burst lilies.

I could have snipped them at the final stem but I wanted to see what they would look like jutting out. It also shows the thickness of the major stem.

 

Back in early November 2014, Ann fell on the way to the Kennedy Center to see La Boheme (first image).  After the opera she decided her wrist was hurting and she stopped at Suburban Hospital.  

 

They did an x ray (left) which showed a fracture (second image). The x ray cost about $180.

A few days later an orthopedist put in a brace.

 

In April 2015, the brace was removed.  The brace is surrounded by screws in the third image.

 

Today, in the mail, was the final resolution of all the charges for all this.  We ended up not owing any more money.  

 

Suburban hospital had only a few hundred dollars of non reimbursed cost.  I presume it took so long because the hospital wanted more reimbursement but I don't know that.

Anyway, the whole billing cycle took less than 7 years.

 

The large floret is from one of our crepe myrtles.

 

The yellow lily is a day lily from last week.

 

Below the day lily is an upside down starburst lily from one of the lily trees. 

The second image shows that this tree produces a lot of these flowers and also shows the 'upside down' aspect of the flowers.

 

There are also two purple cone flowers and a pink rose in the picture. 

 

The cone flowers are identified more easily after clicking on the image to expand it.

 

The Shriver Aquatic Center reopened some time ago.

However, it took months to reopen the hot tubs, a.k.a., hydrotherapy pools, perhaps because of social distancing concerns.

Anyway, they did finally reopen and I went for the first time since the Wuhan virus pandemic made the county close it.

Unfortunately the leisure pool behind the hot tub wasn't open. I like a hut tub, float in leisure pool then hot tub routine. 

Anyway, for $6 per visit it was still a good deal.

 Ann and I both went to the podiatrist today.  In her case she had nails that were too thick to file.

In my case I had that plus the beginning of an early ingrown toe nail.

It was not as bad as the one in the image but it was on the big toe of my left foot. 

Each of our visits was about 15 minutes and all the problems were resolved, at least I hope so.

 

Since the day lilies were doing well and had long stalks I picked two of them.

The giant lilies are from a tall plant but I can only get about 6 inches of direct stalk.

I got one lily of the same type as last week and one from a different plant. 

As noted last week, the vase is about 8 inches high.

Basically there are just two full lilies (some smaller ones in the background don't show well) in the vase and yet it is full.

Each of the flowers is 7 inches wide from edge of petal to edge of petal. The vase is about 8 inches high. Click on image twice for very nice view.

 

I think they are called pink dragons or something like that.

They are from lily trees and the flowers are about 4' to 5' above the ground.

The cone flowers are still blooming but don't look as spectacular as these lilies.

I donated platelets on July 7.  No mask was required and no forehead temperature check before entering (that device never worked right anyway).

I felt much better than the previous time I donated.  Also the SWAG of the day was a nice hat (image - I look a little ragged - haven't shaved or trimmed beard this week as it is the 3 weeks)

Also, my health metrics were pretty good.  HR=64, BP= 124/83, Hg= 15.1   The heart rate was about as good as it was pre pandemic. During the masking era, my heart rate at the Red Cross had typically been in the high 70s to high 80s.

I watched the 2010 movie "The Last Air bender" which had some good scenery and good special effects. It also got good ratings and box office and awards. I found it pretty sappy however.

 

The July 1 game between the Washington Nationals and the LA Dodgers was halted due to a tornado warning.

The image is taken from Arlington looking north at about the time of the warning (image from Capital Weather Gang).

Ultimately, the game was called after 5 innings as the rain was hard enough to make the field unplayable (and the Nationals lost). 

Damage from the tornadoes (apparently two touched down) was minor (I had initially thought otherwise) but no fatalities or serious injury.

One of my lily 'trees' looked very nice and I was thinking of bringing a stalk into the house. 

 

It was a white trumpet lily tree and it has another name but I can't remember it. It is protected from the deer by some rosemary I have in the front of this garden or at least that is my theory.

 

However I changed my mind. 

 

I decided it looked so good in the yard that I would leave it and let the various pedestrians look at it.

 

Instead I brought in some purple and some red cone flowers and added them to flowers that survived in the vase from the previous sabbath. 

 

The two parrot lilies were there last week and still look pretty good. 

 

Ann thinks the vase came from Sonya Bellak.

When I finished showering this evening, I turned the hot and cold water dials but the hot water continued to pour out.

The shower quickly leaked into the kitchen (second image). There is already some ceiling damage and there will be more soon.

 

We called an emergency plumber.  He came within about two and a half hours.

He thought had to cut into the hall wall to get access to the some valve but then decided to cut the whole house water off and get access from the shower holes. That seemed to work.

We also had a sink issue in the same bathroom (basically needed all new fixtures) and he had parts that would fit so we bought that (the one I bought didn't fit - I'll end up returning it).

He was here about 2 or 3 hours.

Anyway, the cost was about $850.

We might use his company to fix the ceiling in the kitchen which was damaged by the leak.
