Stumpy RIP 

This tree was about 25 years old when it was removed today from the tidal basin. The removal was required because of the need to reconstruct the sea wall around the tidal basin. The tree was nicknamed Stumpy some 15 years ago after a large section of the tree fell off. Stumpy was, apparently, beloved by a large section of the many people who go to the tidal basin for the cherry blossom season. The image is, I think, from early April, 2024. ............................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................I haven't been down there in many years as we have a number of neighborhoods with cherry blossom trees to look at.

Valet Service at Jiffy Lube 

I went into the Jiffy Lube wait line and gave the tech my key. He saw that I wasn't walking too well and opened the door for me to the lounge. Then he offered to get me a cup of coffee. I accepted and he brought one to me. Of course at the end the car was waiting for me at the exit. I also got a few Jiffy Lube pens. ..............................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................I suppose this justifies the $48 for oil and lube and the $60 for brake fluid replacement.

Another Blood Plasma Donation 

On May 14, I had a blood donation again. The intake metrics were pretty good. BP=120/80, Pulse = 68, Hg = 15.8. ..............................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................Unfortunately it was another long experience. I got to the intake desk at 240 and didn't leave the donation room until about 430. The total time blood was actually drawn was about 35 minutes. There were a couple of big delays. The most annoying of them was the time after the blood draw was completed until the time the blood tech took the needle out (about 20 minutes).

Missed the Event  

The image was taken May 10 near San Francisco. It has the Golden Gate Bridge with the Aurora Borealis. We had a deep cloud decks over us that night.

Flowers for various reasons 

We have flowers from various reasons. The orchids were from Diane White who came the first night of Passover. The Kalanchoe was brought by Sarah Antine who visited Ann on May 3. The tulips (in the big vase) are for Mother's day. ................. .............................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................. The orchids and kalanchoe need very little water, I think a few ounces a week. The tulips are in water.

A Tourist Attraction? Will Come to Rockville, Md 

This Museum will be about 10 miles from our house. It will open in October 2024 but without much parking. Parking will be augmented in 2025. I don't plan to go there. .................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................. This is an initiative of the Universities of Shady Grove which is consortium of various institutions, e.g., Bowie State, Univ of Md at College Park, Towson State. Courses are provided outside of main campus. I wonder what the on site cafe will serve. On second thought I'd rather not know.

Golf to Skin Disease to Nice Meal - Dream 

I dreamt I was playing golf. Someone got me as I was putting and told me to come with them. I followed to a place where a bunch of people were standing around and they had a skin disease. I was supposed to cure them I thought. I told them to sit down on a nearby bench. Their skin seemed to get better. Then I was congratulated and told to follow again. I went into a dining room and there was a beef wellington meal set out for me. As I cut into the meat I woke up. .................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................. image is of M. leprae, one of the causative agents of leprosy: As an acid-fast bacterium, M. leprae appears red when a Ziehl–Neelsen stain is used. A few weeks ago, the Torah portions were about a skin disease.
