Nice Sunrise 

I was on the road before 7am today and noticed a very orange sun. This is due to the smoke from forest fires in Canada.. .................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................... I didn't have time to take a picture but Ray Hoffman posted this fabulous image on his twitter feed. The water body is the Chesapeake Bay.

Coolant Problem Once Again 

Back in September 2022, I went through several weeks fixing a coolant problem, then sensor problem, then exhaust conduit problem. Today, I noticed the engine light was on. I went to Jiffy Lube and got an oil change (which I hadn't had since September 2022) and they topped off the coolant. I left Jiffy Lube and the engine light was still on. I went to Shul for mincha and maariv and the light was still on. I got back in my car after maariv and ..................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................... the engine light was off. Yay.

I'm Arrested --- in a dream 

Sometime a few years ago I stopped dreaming about being lost in a strange city. This was probably because I now have a cell phone in my dreams. But here was a down side. In my dream I was invited to join a secret meeting in a military (I think Navy) high security room. Before I entered the high security room there was a woman staffing a table with cell phones people had presumably left before they entered the room. The woman told me I didn't have to leave my cell phone so I just went in. ..................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................... A few minutes later the woman entered the room and announced that I had a cell phone and I was arrested. I was very annoyed but woke up.

May I see some ID 

I bought some ice cream at the store. It was a from a new brand and two new products. There was an introductory price $1 lower than the store brand. ..................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................... When I got to the checkout counter and the checker got to the product he held it up and said to me, "May I see some ID?". I got a kick out of that.

Normally I dislike bumper stickers because they are ugly. When did you weigh yourself last 

I donated plasma on June 21. My vitals were: pulse = 60, BP = 130/84 Hg = 15.9 all pretty good. The funny part of this was during the 'intake'. The phlebotomist was asking the intake questions, e.g., name, SSN, address, etc. He got to the weight part. I said, 220#. ...................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................... He said, "When did you weigh yourself last?". I didn't have an answer and he brought in a scale. The weight was 225#. I suppose some people would be upset at the question but thought it amusing.

Summer Solstice - needed heater in car 

Today is the summer solstice. The precise time of the solstice today was 10:58 am. Ann and I went out for lunch. On our way home about 1pm, the temperature, as per the dashboard indicator was 61F outside our car (it was 65F at National Airport at that time). The window started to fog up and I put on the defroster with heater. ..................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................... I'm sure we have had other years with abnormally cool weather near noon on the summer solstice day but I can't remember any this chilly. ...........Image is Stonehenge near sunrise on solstice day.

Tamar and Oz arrive back in Israel 

They left Dulles about 630 pm (EDT) on Wednesday 14 June and arrived at Ben Gurion about 500 pm local time. This was one of the first few dozen Virgin Airlines landings in Israel. ..................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................... They got a really good air fare and also didn't have to pay for the cost of certified Covid tests.

Video and still of the candles being blown out 

The video was 46 Meg and I was worried it wouldn't load to blogger and it didn't but I have it on the laptop and the phone and it shows Irwin taking a still of the candles being blown out. .................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................... The still was taken by Irwin. .. A Story (I think by Rita Rudner). She was invited to a birthday party. When she got there she found out it was for a one year old and it was a surprise party. All the guest snuck up around the crib and yelled "Surprise". The birthday boy is now 20 years old and should be coming out of therapy any day.

Some Birthday stills  

It was the 4th birthday celebration for Oz. Also his fouth birthday. ..................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................... We commandered a neighbor (actually a former neighbor who was visiting another neighbor) to take a picture of the five of us. My tardiness (I actually set my alarm for this event and then turned it off and we kept talking at the table) in getting everybody outside was a problem as Irwin, who was visiting us, had to go. The scooter was one of the gifts.

The Coinstar Visit 

We took all our charity boxes to the grocery store last evening. The store has a machine in which one can dump change, it counts the change and after taking a fee, it can give you store credit or a gift card (about a dozen merchants) or charity (about a dozen of those also). ..................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................... It took us a while at this machine because we had quite a lot of change and also it was somewhat difficult to get it out of some of the charity boxes. The machine also spit out some Canadian and Israeli coinage that had gone into the boxes. .............' The first image shows a point in the process. The amount changes as the machine is working. The second shows Oz with the pile of change in the maching. As the last image shows (after you enlarge it by clicking on the image), the amount of change was over $70 and the fee was about $10. Interestingly, the groceries we bought that day was less than the amount of store credit and this led to another wait as the manager had to come and work on the register. A few days later I went on line with Oz and donated to charity (Jewish National Fund)
