Indoor Sky Diving for Oz

Just 15 minutes from our house is an indoor Sky Diving Center. It is next to I-270 Westbound and easy to see while driving by but the access is via Gaither Road off of Shady Grove Road. ......................................................................................................................... ..................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................... There was a family that 'trained' with Oz. He got three 1-minute rides and got a certificate and had a good time.

Saw A One Wheel Powered Self Balancing Scooter in Traffic Today - A First

I saw it today. I was west bound on Route 28 at Viers Mill Road. I was stopped for a traffic light .............................................................................................................................................. The Scooter (and rider wearing a raincoat) was northbound on Viers Mill Road. .................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................... I had to blink a few times but each time the vehicle was still visible. Arrrrgggg.

some misc pictues

First image is Oz, Tamar and myself at Siena having Lunch the Wednesday before Shavuot (Thursday evening) ......................................................................................................................... We took home quite a bit and some of it went into the first Shavuot meal. .................................................................................................................................... .................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................... ................................................................................................................ Second image is Oz and me at the underground parking area of the Grocery Store getting ready to put the cart back. Oz made a face. We took another image but it came out blurry.

A Hug or a Coca Cola

Last night it was time for Oz to go upstairs to bed. Tamar said he could get a hug before going to bed. .................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................... Oz responded, "I want a Coca Cola first, then a hug".

Heidi Gets Outside

Yesterday, Oz was playing in the backyard. He left open 1. the door from the family room to the sunroom and 2. the door from the sunroom to the outside. ..................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................... Heidi got outside about 10pm or so on 24 May per a report by Tamar. We left the two doors open for a while and about 2am the next day Heidi was back in the house.

Day After Arrival - Beth and George at Bark Social

We went to a place called "Bark Social" during the early afternoon. It is in the Rose and Pike area, just south of and visible from Josiah Parkway, formerly known as the Montrose Parkway. I probably drive by there a few times nearly every week ............................................................................................................................................................................................................................................. It is free for humans and the nearby parking is free for the first two hours. Dogs are $1/day if you buy a whole year of potential attendance and half price for a second dog. There were about a dozen dogs and perhaps 20 people counting the staff. The dogs really seemed to enjoy running around, taking a dip in the two large water basins and being friendly to the humans watching them. Tamar especially liked a large fluffy dog that looked extra snuggly. I got a kick out of watching what I think was a fox terrier running on his short stumpy legs while wiggling his plump body.................................................................................................................... There are a lot of chairs for the humans and tables for them to order drinks (they have alcoholic drinks as well as non alcoholic drinks). They also sell treats for the dogs as noted in the image. Anyway, we had a good time and Oz actually wore himself out and fell asleep at about 730pm.

Big Strawberries for Shabbat and Sunday

During work at the caterer, I noticed that they had some very big strawberries. I went by the local grocery yesterday and got a pint for about $2 that had big strawberries. As in the image, some of them were almost 2 inches across the top and about 3 inches top to bottom. I also noticed that these strawberries, both for the caterer and at the grocery were from southern California. I'm guessing that recent improved genetic engineering plus a really rainy winter season were responsible for the large size. ................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................. As I was cutting the tops off, I tasted one of the strawberries. It wasn't noticibly sweeter or less sweet or more tangy or less tangy than strawberries I remember eating earlier this year. But they do look nicer anyway and, as they say in culinary work, presentation is as important as taste, maybe more so.

Better than Home Made

Bought this product during Passover. It turned out better than homemade, at least in some respects. I didn't have to do any mashing (and never any lumps). I didn't have to do any draining. It is more expensive than homemade but then again I am getting lazy. ..................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................... Passover is over but I bought some more today. I'll still buy some regular potatoes for use in cooking with chicken.

Mother's Day

George visited for mother's day. We had salmon and fettucini alfredo. .................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................... It is similar to the photo from May 12. Some changes: 1. George, Vampy and Igot were there. Also Pengy got into the picture. 2. Picture taken from opposite direction. 3. Vase has a rose in addition to the other flowers. The rose came from Ramesh at Siena.

Flowers for Sabbath and Mother's Day

The wild daisies are still blooming. This is about the 4th week or so and I'm pleased about it. .................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................... The pink and white/purple irises are in full bloom now. The dark blue irises ended their bloom period about 3 weeks ago. Click to enlarge. .................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................... I also have some yellow irises; they are in the back yard and I didn't feel like doing the walk. I think my irises are better than the ones in Van Gogh's famous painting of them https://www.wayfair.com/Vault-W-Artwork--IrisesFamous-Flowers-Oil-Paintings-Reproduction-Artwork-By-Van-Gogh-X118346563-L1318-K~W007235452.html?refid=MX79165010507925-W007235452&device=c&ptid=4582764494300263&targetid=pla-4582764494300263&channel=BingPLA&network=s&msclkid=e3b4cae77b681c9f6874ae872081cf93

Hydrotherapy Experiment

Today at the Germantown Indoor Rec Center, I brought a thermometer. ..................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................... Before I got in the hot tub, I was at 98.2 F. After about 20 minutes in the hot tub I was at 99.4 F. I then went in the big pool for a while. After I got out I was at 98.4 F. The hot tub water was 102.1 F (measured by my thermometer). The pool was at 81F (per discussion with pool staff).

Mixing Chicken with Beef

When I was growing up, chicken and beef were never cooked together. It was one or the other. Things have changed. For several years now, the kosher grocery has been selling a ground chicken/beef product (about a 20% to 40% savings on the ground beef product - and yes they also sell a ground turkey product but I haven't bought it yet
.................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................... Today, while I was working at the caterer, they served a combo of beef brisket and chicken (the chicken cut into small narrow strips) with a tomato, onion and bean sprout sauce. It was really good, as good as a pure beer brisket. Maybe because beer is so expensive and because some people have to restrict their beef intate (I do this because of gout) and for various other reasons, I think the beef/chicken combo could catch on..................................................................................................................... The images (click to enlarge) are from a 1990s marketing campaign by Chick-Fil-A, a.k.a., the 'Eat More Chickin', a.k.a., EMC, promotion.

Wild Daisies

For some years, these flowers, which I think are wild daisies, have been growing in our yard. Typically they grow in boder areas but also they grow where the grass is thin and where there is bare ground. ..................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................... I have finally decided to use these as a 'garden flower' and have begun to transplant them to where I want them to provide color and cover. The ones in the image started blooming about 10 days ago and are still at their peak so they seem like a pretty decent choice.
