Some Cherry Trees Are Blooming

Some Cherry Blossom trees are blooming but most are not. ............................................................................................................................................................................................................On this street near our house a lot of older cherry blossom trees that had various problems, e.g., broken limbs, fungus, were taken down some years ago. New trees were planted. The new trees seem to be early bloomers. ...................................................................................................... This street is Tildenwood. The part of this street south of Montrose has both new and old cherry blossom trees. The part north of Tildenwood still has the original trees which for some reason didn't get infected.

Tomorrow's Physical At Amazon

Tomorrow is our (for both Ann and me) annual physical. ............................................................................................................................................................................................................ Our company, as of yesterday was One Medical which bought Potomac Physicians about two years ago. Today, Amazon closed on the purchase of One Medical. So our primary physicians work for Amazon now. If I get Amazon prime, will my health care be more upscale?

Another Sign of Emerging from the Pandemic

Within the last month or so, the Hair Cuttery has modified its policy on face masks. ............................................................................................................................................................................................................ Formerly both customer and stylist were required to wear face masks. The customer requirement was annoying because it meant a veryn incomplete job of trimming my beard. ............................................................................................................................................................................................................ Now only the stylist wears the face mask. The price is up again, however.

Another subspecies of Crocus

The first emerging crocus have gone dormant. ............................................................................................................................................................................................................But another subspecies has now emerged. This one has bigger petals. ALYX is Ready for You

.......................................................................................................................................................I was at the blood donation center again on 14 February for a plasma donation. After the office visit where they measure pulse, BP, Hg and ask donation questions, the tech said "Alyx is ready for you". I wasn't sure what that meant but I followed her ..........................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................It turns out that ALYX is the name of the machine that extracts plasma from whole blood (other centers use something called a TRIMA - I don't know what the acronyms stand for or even if they are acronyms). .......................................................................................................................................................Anyway, metrics were good: 68 pulse, BP 128/90, Hg 15.5

Frost Warning for California areas Sent to Ann's Cell Phone

Ann came down for breakfast and asked, "Was the Frost severe this morning?" ....................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................It was an odd question since it was a warm morning with the low about 45F. ....................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................I looked at her cell phone (an iPhone-7). The frost warning was for several areas in California. ..................................................................................................................................I didn't get such a warning on my iPhone-4.

Found a Lost Key

A few weeks ago I misplaced one of my car keys. The key isn't too hard to copy but the FOB is very expensive to copy. .............................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................. Today I thought I had misplaced my only other key. I found it on the reclining chair I use a lot - in one of the seams. .............................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................. I began to place the key where I usually put it, in a drawer near the easy chair but I opened the drawer below it by mistake. There was the first key I had replaced. .............................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................. Yay!!

The Crocus Appears

Last Friday-Saturday was brutally cold. Saturday morning was in the low teens above zero F. .............................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................. ............................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................... ..................................... ................................. But today, as I was parking the car I noticed that one variety of crocus was blooming pretty well (we have about 3 or 4 varieties). .............................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................. ....................................................................................................................................................... I'm pretty sure this is considerably earlier than last year.

You can have your cake and eat it too

Ann and I have been watching a series of lectures about the Henry the 8th (also other lectures, e.g., middle ages, French Revolution, Russia). ............................................................................................................................................................................................................. Today, while watching, I served Ann a piece of cake (bought at 50% off) and said, "You can not have your cake and eat your cake too." ..................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................... The expression first appears in 1538 in a letter from Thomas Henry, Duke of York to Thomas Cromwell. The Duke was commenting that by after the King confiscated church property (having it) and promised to distribute wealth the King could no longer blame the church for the poverty of the nation.
