Cooking rice by itself isn't too hard but putting lots of things in the rice makes it hard to figure out how much water to put in. Also, it is a bit difficult to get the cooking to be long enough but not too long. ........................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................... . It tasted pretty good though.

Ann likes to go on a drive every so often. Today we went on a drive along the Potomac. We used Clara Barton Parkway, Canal Road, Key Bridge and the GW Parkway.

On the Maryland side we stopped at the Clara Barton historical site.  It is adjacent to the Glen Echo historical site just a bit NW of the Washington, D.C. border.  It is a 38 room mansion constructed in 1891, largely from timber salvaged from the Johnstown flood of 1889. It was made a national historic landmark in 1965 and is managed by the GW Memorial Parkway Authority.

 

On the Virginia side we stopped at an overlook on the GW Parkway. 

It is at least 75' above a narrow stream separating the Virginia side from an island in the Potomac.  You can see the Maryland side is even higher above the river than the Virginia side.

I Thought the Sun and Moon were the Same Thing

 

This borders on the not-believable.  Comedienne, and celebrity political influencer,  Chelsea Handler says that until she was 40 (as of this post she is 47) she thought the sun and moon were the same thing. She thought the sun becomes the moon at night. When she was on a safari in Africa her sister pointed out that both the sun and moon were visible. That was, per testimony, her epiphany.  She stated this on late night TV on Jan 13, 2023.

 

I was opening for a post Shabbat event tonight at Beth Sholom. 

 

I had a replacement mashgiach so I only had to be there an hour but they wanted me to open since the replacement lived across town and time is critical in these events. 

It was a dairy event.  

The chef created a center piece for the buffet table using celery, basil, olive oil and pasta sauce (and some cartons).  These items were not going to be used at the event but the pasta sauce they were going to have on the buffet table did use oil, etc. 

The client got the center piece for free and the caterer got to take the unopened (or unused in the case of the celery) back to the food preparation HQ.

Today I went to Ozzy's gan (preschool) and asked his gannenet (head of the preschool) if he was sensitive.Note: I don't think being sensitive is bad, I'm not worried. I just wanted confirmation of this trait. 

 

At their most recent NFL game the Washington Commanders unveiled their new mascot.

The name of the mascot is Major Tubby (a major, which is an army rank, would correspond to the navy rank of Lieutenant Commander.)

It is thought to be a salute to the great offensive line Washington had many years ago. That group of players was nicknamed 'The Hogs'.

Of course Washington, D.C. is also known for pork barrel projects hidden in massively complicated legislation. 

Maybe that's an alternative salute.
