THE WEISS CHRONICLES

 

I was on duty early today. When I got into the car about 640am, the condensation started quickly after I got the engine on.  It took about 10 minutes to clear it enough to drive.

This is a sign of the change of seasons around here. The temperature at the time was about 50F.

I was shopping at Giant.  They had $10 off if you bought $50 or more and were a 'member'.

I thought I had plenty but after the various store discounts the total was about $49.50.

The clerk suggested I buy something from the near checkout counter. 

 The clerk got one and then I got the $10 off.

Least expensive candy bar I ever bought.

 

We received this letter today.

 

We have lived at 8211 Postoak Rd since 1996. 

 

We bought the house from the original owners. They were two ladies but perhaps they had Mr. Howard stay with them for a while or he had his mail forwarded to them.

 

Anyway, this was from the DNC National Committee with a message from President Joe Biden.  I figure the DNC paid some company to harvest addresses but whatever.

When I returned home from a job this pm at about  3pm, the garbage hadn't been picked up.  It is typically picked up about 7am and recycle was picked up about that time.  

I saw my neighbor (Matt) on the sidewalk and he said his wasn't picked up and was going to call 311 and that his neighbor on the other side (Igor) had the same issue.

I called 311. It was about 2 minutes until I spoke to some one.  Our garbage was picked up about 4pm. I called 311 again about 30 minutes later and thanked them.

 

Last night Ann told me the water wasn't going down in the kitchen sink. 

I opened up the cabinet under the sink and found the disposal leaking badly.  I called the plumbing service and got an appointment for today. 

In the meantime, George noticed that the leak was going into the basement. At first he thought it was a pipe but given the point of the wetness determined it was the leak from the disposal. 

It is annoyingly expensive to replace a garbage disposal.

Also the second garbage issue we had today.

 I was on mashgiach duty today beginning at 6am (lots of deliveries, lots of pickups). I got home at about 3pm.

Several years ago, I did a favor for one of assistant chefs (I re- opened the food prep facility for him after hours so he could get his bike lock or something like that).  Sometime after that I saw him cooking schnitzel and he asked me if I liked it for supper. I said that I did and in fact would probably like it for breakfast.  

He apparently remembered both the favor and the schnitzel conversation because today, at about 8am when he had finished making several dozen schnitzels for delivery, he brought me one with rice. He told me he had been hoping for an opportunity to make it for me.

Anyway, it was a great breakfast.

 

I've had knee pain for several months. Since both the Physical Therapy and the Whirlpool, a.k.a., hydrotherapy, helped a little, I decided to supplement it with acupuncture.  There is a practive very near my house. There was a yelp review by someone who had knee pain that went away after the second visit.

Interestingly, my knees felt better walking from the parking lot to the acupuncturist.  Then they hurt as I searched for the office. There was a mini massage, then needles, then an electro stimulator for the needles, then a long and deep massage. Then they felt better again,, then hurt, then felt better.

I decided to make 3 more appointments. Co pay was only $20.00.

 

This is a follow up to the "Return of the Cat" post a few days ago.

As noted in that post, she left the house on 12 August and returned 16 August.  She was not interested in eating then nor for the next few days.  I called the vet to get some more appetite stimulus medicine but then by 18 August she had eaten a tiny bit but threw it up and she was making noises like she was in pain. So we called the vet again for a euthanasia but then she died later that day, before we could get an appointment.  We got a company to cremate her (Agapepetservices).  They picked up her remains on 20 August. They sent the card and the booklet with the urn holding the remains. We got the urn a few days ago but I couldn't bring myself to open the package until tonight. 

I called the vet (PetDominion) and told them. I complimented their service in caring for Katrina and they told me I was a good cat host. 

Let me close this with a quote by Cheryl Kaplowitz who sent us a condolence email on 23 August which said, "... I thought it was so beautiful that she chose to come home to die in a place she associated with love and comfort."

 Oz helped with the red luggage bag at Dulles.

He was also in charge of this luggage at Ben Gurion.

 I got to the blood bank today and asked about masking.

The policy was that donors must be masked.  I didn't feel well enough to do two and a half hours immobilized and masked. 

The technician suggested I give whole blood instead today so that's what I did. 

 

Metrics: Pulse=84, Bp=134/80, Hg= 15.1

 

The whole blood donation required less than a half an hour on the chair.
