Ann with Mother's Day and Shabbat Flowers 

Yes more flowers.

I picked the irises late Friday and some of the blooms  were closed but they came out yesterday and even more today.  

The champagne yellow ones were from Cheryl.

Today is mother's day and also Jerusalem day.

New Car 

I got a new car yesterday.

The old car, a 2006 Chevy Cobalt had some body damage and was getting service too frequently.

The new car is a 2015 Chevy Sonic.  It has some nice features that I like, for example,

high roof to reduce head bumps while getting in

a sun roof

better mileage than the Cobalt

a rear window wiper (as well as a rear defroster)

a hatchback with rear seats that fold down

 a multilayer truck (spare tire bottom, grocery bags, etc. middle and open on top 

I was able to keep the license plates also

Finally, they gave me $1500 on the 2006 vehicle which I thought was quite nice and just about the cost of a 5 year warranty  

I'm thinking of getting a rear camera either from CarMax or aftermarket.

Lots of foxes 

On Sunday, while looking at Azaleas and Dogwoods, etc. we saw a couple of foxes.

This was both in our immediate neighborhood and in Bethesda near Suburban Hospital. 

I was speaking to someone on Sunday May 6 who said that some foxes live under their back porch. 

We spoke some more and both noticed that the number of squirrels and rabbits in the neighborhood is way down - which is a very good thing in the case of rabbits (who have feasted on my flowers for years). 

The images show the red fox and the brown fox which per the State govt experts are the native species around here.

Outside Trees and Shrubs Bloom Big Time 

Our odd winter and spring with a warm February and cold March has  produced some May results in the form of blooms on trees and shrubs.

Image one is in our front yard. 

The rose bush in the foreground is close to blooming. The lilac bush to Ann's right is in full bloom. The purple moneyplant flowers near Ann's left  shoulder is also in full bloom.

After taking picture number one we went for a drive on the way to a movie. 

In several neighborhoods there were wonderful displays of full blooming azaleas. Image two is from one of those.  

The movie was "The New Black" a.k.a., Shababnikim.  

It was an exaggerated, and sometimes funny, view of the goings on at a prestige Yeshiva in Jerusalem. It was better than some Jewish Film Festival offerings I've seen and not as good as others.

One Week big pitching difference 

On April 26, I went to a Pittsburgh Pirate game in Pittsburgh. Ivan Nova pitched 8 innings for the Pirates and gave up zero runs (with Glen Kruser, Dave Kroes and Gerry Berg).

Last night (May 2) I went to a Nationals game in Washington (with Gerry Berg, courtesy of Stanley Cohen). Ivan Nova pitched 4.2 innings and gave up 8 runs (5 earned).

It was about 35F degrees warmer on May 2.  I would like to imagine that I had scouted Nova out and gave the Nationals the key to hitting him.

Balloons and Tulips for b-day 

Balloons and Tulips arrived May 1 for Ann's birthday (which was April 30).




It took we four pictures to get both balloons in with a more relaxed subject.
