A Problem with Remote Work 

For many months Ann has been able to work from home (auditing medical coding). 

The past week or so, things have been rough.

She couldn't get a connection and went in to the office.

There she used their ethernet, while technicians fixed things with her (contractor owned and contractor provided with government security encrytion, etc.,) computer as well as with the server at the office) and stayed there to work.

Its been 4 times now that the next day, a different set of connection problems has come up.

We are both getting tired of this. I'm sure the technicians are also.

NYC trip 

We were in NYC Jan 15-18 for a visit of theaters and museums (and restaurants).

I have a blog on this trip here.


We saw one musical, one opera, went to three museums (9-11, Metropolitan Museum of Art, Metropolitan Natural History Museum), and did some walking around as well.  

On the first day, we saw a sunset from the Top of the Rockefeller Plaza.

An Few Weeks Early but many years too late Valentine Day Gift -  

In the mail yesterday was a happy valentine day card for my father who died in the previous century (he died in Sept 1990).

The card contained address labels and, surprise, an appeal for a contribution.

One of the differences between being alive and being in heaven is, that in heaven, you receive (apparently) somewhat less unsolicited mail.

A new Container Era 

I got some take out from Shawreen (a local restaurant) today.

Up until recently, we got the Styrofoam container (first image). 


Today we got the plastic container (second image).  

This is due to a law (41-14) in Montgomery County.  Chain stores were prohibited from using Styrofoam as of 1 Jan 2016, but single stores were given to 1 Jan 2017.  

The new containers are more expensive to the vendor and also don't keep food as hot as the old containers. However, no doubt the county council gets to feel they are saving the planet and can virtue signal other county councils.

Cold Evening for Outside Ceremony 

After Maariv this evening we had a minyan for kiddush levanah, i.e., a sanctification of the new month.  We did this in the parking lot.

It was cold, somewhere below 20F.  It, of course, has been colder on Saturday evening  but a lot of times when it is kiddush levanah time there are clouds and if you can't see the moon we don't do the sanctification

We had just had a light dusting of snow also (image off the internet - I really liked the purplish color of that photo).

btw, the word 'levanah' doesn't occur in the Bible until Isaiah (24:23 and 30:26) and the Song of Songs (6:10), although one of the bad guys in Genesis is Levan; levanah could mean 'little white one' if it were in the 5 books of Moses.
