bad/good cholesterol

Before my annual physical, I had my blood tested per usual (see report on the botch from 6-13).

One surprise was in the cholesterol levels.

Last year, my bad/good ratio was about 5.1 but this year my bad cholesterol was down and the good was up slightly for a ratio of about 4.2

The American Heart Association says everyone's goal should be 5.0 or lower with 3.5 the optimum.

Bye to Gym says George

G has been a member of the JCC of Greater Washington (its near our house) for a year or so. We paid for his membership as an encouragement to use it.

For a while he was using it but, apparently, he has been too busy at work to use it more than once a week or so. Thus he is dropping membership.

I won't get to use one of my favorite comments to him, namely, "George, why don't you go to the gym, do you thing we bought the membership for your health?"

Another Strange Dream

Last night I had a dream. In the dream, I was about ready to prepare supper. I opened up the refrigerator and there was almost nothing in it. I then opened the freezer and the only thing in the freezer was pre-popped popcorn. Yuck.

Oddly, this occurred on the night after Sabbath when our refrigerator is typically more crowded then usual. In fact it was even more crowded then usual because we had, not only left over food from lunch but also from Seudah Shlesheet.

Also, our Rabbi had given a pre-Mincha drosh on the subject of dreams, using Tractate Berachot (from the Babylonia Talmud) as a text of sorts. It turns out Rabbis get a steady stream of people worried about their dreams, typically Sephardi women.

botched blood draw

I was having my blood drawn prior to an annual physical (a Wednesday). As soon as the phlebotomist put the bandage on, I knew this wasn't a good draw as hurt - a lot.

A few hours later I took the bandage off but the pain didn't go down.

The next day (Thursday) I had to cut short my exercise time because I was winded.

Friday the pain lessened and Saturday the pain lessened some more.

The arm was still discolored on Sunday June 17 when these two images were taken. However, the pain was almost gone.

From the Penthouse to the Outhouse

I was at the NYMets- Washington Nationals game tonight.

One of the interesting thing was the role of Jordany Valdespin (seen in the image) in the game (neither team played particularly well).

Valdespin pinch hit for the Mets to lead of the 6th inning and hit a HR on the first pitch. He then hit a double later in the game. This put him, figuratively in the penthouse. But then in the 10th inning Valdespin made two errors allowing the Nationals to tie the game. The Nationals won the game in the 12th. I left (with Stanley) before the bottom of the 12th because the scoreboard said the last metrorail trains were leaving the Navy Yard station at 1120 pm.

In the bottom of the 12, one of the key hits was by Ian Desmond who drove in the tying run. Desmond also drove in a tying run twice before that for 3 game tying runs, all in the 8th inning or later.
