Two nights ago I had a dream in which I was looking for our cat, Trina. Probably I just wanted to say hello to her and pet her.
I got to the bedroom and William Shatner (dressed as the Captain Kirk of 1960s Star Trek) was guarding her.
He wouldn't let me near the cat.
Then last night I dreamt that some outer space aliens came to our house. They knocked at the door and I answered it. They came in and somehow we communicated.
Then we began watching TV together. There was some show on with an 'end of the world' type battle between humans and aliens.
I began routing for the humans and the aliens began routing for the aliens.
I woke up before getting snacks.
I had a disturbing dream early today.
In my dream there I was in a room with a lot of Burts (as in the Burt of 'Burt and Ernie'). There was a fire and I grabbed one of the Berts and left the room.
The Bert I grabbed told me, "you've saved the wrong Bert".
I said something like, "huh".
The Bert said, "because I'm going to end the world."
I again said something like, "huh".
The Bert said, "by turning off the Sun."
Somehow I thought there was a liquor cabinet in a nearby building and went into the building in order to get some whiskey to drink as the sun was going out.
However, when I got into the building, there was no liquor cabinet and the only places to sit were those uncomfortable wood and steel study chairs like we had in grade school. Even worse, almost all the places were taken with some of the more boring people I used to work with in Government.
Last night I dreamt that I had taken George to pick up his repaired car (it is being repaired by a place in College Park).
In my dream, Wily Coyote was the mechanic in charge of the repair and there were all kinds of complex gadget clusters on G's car.
Then I woke up.
G also had a car related dream a few days ago. In his dream, he was sent to prison for some sort of homicide after an automobile accident that was his fault.
We have a lot of azaleas in our yard and, of course, there are lots of azaleas in our neighborhood and throughout the region.
Azaleas like acidic soil so I fertilize ours with dried out tea bags and the peels from oranges and grapefruit.
Actually, though, most of the DC area has acidic soil.
The last image shows an azalea in front of a southern magnolia. Southern magnolias also prefer acidic soil but actually, the tree is so robust that it would do well in moderately alkaline soil also. Also this last image shows an azalea that I planted. The others were here when we moved in to the house in 1996. This one also has better sun exposure than the other two.
I had an office partner one time who took used coffee grounds home and placed them near his more acid loving plants. I did this once but it was too 'icky' for me to do any more.
Ryan Mattheus of the Nationals got the win tonight in a game against Houston (I went with Stanley).
Mattheus pitched the 8th inning for the Nationals. He gave up two hits and one run but the Nationals scored 2 in the bottom of the inning. Mattheus was credited with the win, his second. He ended the game with a season ERA of 6.00.
Other oddities:
1. This is the last Houston visit to Washington as a National League team as next year, they will be in the American League (in 1998, Milwaukee moved from the American to National League, the only such move in the 20th century).
2. The temperature at the game was in the low 50s to start and probably dropped to the upper 40s during the game. Back on April 8, 2008, it was even colder, in the mid 40s, and I was at that game.
3. Henry Rodriguez, who pitched the 9th and got Houston out in order, got the save. If Mattheus had not be awarded the win, Rodriguez would have been awarded the win and there would have been no save. This was possible because of the wording in the rules of baseball (10.17) that state, "..(c) The official scorer shall not credit as the winning pitcher a relief pitcher who is ineffective in
a brief appearance, when at least one succeeding relief pitcher pitches effectively in helping
his team maintain its lead. In such a case, the official scorer shall credit as the winning
pitcher the succeeding relief pitcher who was most effective, in the judgment of the official
scorer.
."
G had an automobile accident on April 4, eight days after the previous auto accident (and 2 days before the first Seder).
Despite the damage shown in the image, the car is drivable and he has been taking it to work, to the body shop for estimation and today (April 9) he is taking this car to be sworn in to the DC Bar.
For the accident, 15 points lost and for the swearing in, 5 points gained for Griffengeorge.
Once upon a time grocery bags were free in Montgomery County (actually in 2011).
This week, I was shopping using a car that didn't have any of the reusable bags stored in it (we have company and they were using that vehicle).
Somehow I got into a conversation with the woman ahead of me in the shopping line and she ended up giving me three shopping bags (the paper kind with plastic over it) which was enough for everything I bought that was baggable.
Part of the reason I merited this was that I listened to her complain about previous Passover Sedarim where she had cooked for 40 to 50 people (I think she may have been counting both nights). She said she was 'done with that' now even though this was her 4th shopping trip in the past few days. I asked how many people would be at her sedarim now. She said, "20 to 30".
