Did I Fight off a cold?

Back on Aug 24, I was at the gym exercising when I began to feel a scratchy throat. After I finished with the machine I was using, I went to the locker room and spent extra time in the sauna, the steam room and in the shower washing out my sinuses. Then I came home and took 2 tablets of vitamin C and one of zinc. Then on Aug 26, I felt another bit of scratchy throat and I did the C and zinc routine again.

Still no cold. Maybe it worked.

Yankee Grand Slams

Against the Oakland A's the Yankees won a game on Aug 25 by 22-9.

Three Yankees hit grand slam HRs.

They were:

Robinson Cano who got his in the 5th.

Russell Martin who got his in the 6th

Curtis Granderson who got his in the 8th.

oddly, the Athletics were ahead 7-1 in the 3rd inning.

This is the first time this has happened although 13 players have hit two grand slams in the same game.

Earthquake Today

I was watching TV. The house started to shake and some things fell from shelves.

At first I looked to see if our cat was causing this problem but then I realized that cats can't really make the house shake.

Reports are that a 5.9 (of 6.0 or 5.8, etc.) magnitude quake was centered about 100 miles south of Washington DC. The quake was strong enough that a lot of public buildings in DC were evacuated but there are few reports of damage (the image was of some of the damage reported locally). The USGS has re-evaluated the event and says it was a 5.8.

Clean Up in Aisle 6

I was buying some soda today at the local grocery store. When the belt moved, one of the bottles fell off and hit the floor.

When the bottle hit the floor, the top came off in an explosion of sorts. Soda went in every direction. In some directions, it went about 15 feet Soda got on the scanning devices and the other pricing devices and on several customers and on two of the employees (about half on a 2 litre bottle was sprayed).

This was about a hour or so before the earthquake.

A White House Recipe Dream

I had a dream that I got a call from the White House. An alien (the kind from another planet) was visiting the President and the White House chef wanted my recipe for Strings beans in lemon and mushroom sauce.

I don't think I've ever made that and I can't find a good recipe for that on the internet (but there are plenty with mushrooms and string beans).

Actually, I've never liked cooking fresh string beans because I'm never sure how I should cut them, e.g., should you try to make them all the same length after cutting, should you leave the skinny part on (they did in the image above) or try to only have the fat part of the bean.

Regarding the 'alien visit the White House' part of the dream, it may have been triggered by a statement by Paul Krugman (who writes a column for the NYTimes) concerning the economic effects of an impending alien attack or a group of Penn State professors who postulate aliens not liking earth because of our greenhouse gas emissions.

A Dream About Beer in Israel

I had a dream that I was in Israel and was invited to a beer tasting event. The beer was served in very small cups - about 2 ounces.

I said that I couldn't really taste beer if it was in such a small container but I would pay if they served it in a normal size cup.

Somebody said, "'yes', you pay $2 and we get you this cup" (with an Israeli accent).

I paid and they brought me a cup that looked like it was about 12 ounces but then I started drinking and hit the bottom quickly. The cup had a raised bottom and probably held only about 4 ounces or so. Its hard to have a good beer in your sleep -- apparently.

They make hardware to allow printing on fabric.

They don't have a wikipedia page yet but one of the things Beth is supposed to do is put together a wikipedia page for the company (or maybe for the technology, or maybe for the industry).
