When Job Interview is about as long as the Employment.

G had a job interview one day. It was working for a one person legal office. The fellow had 35+ years of experience so it looked like a good place to learn (while waiting for the results of the bar exam). The fellow had some financial issues but at the pay rate of a law clerk, that didn't seem to be an issue. The interview lasted about an hour.

The next day, G reported for work. The financial issue was way more severe than G had been told. So severe, in fact, that it was actually unlikely that the attorney had net assets not subject to a soon-to-be-declared bankruptcy (for example the attorney did own property but the mortgages on these properties were for more than the market price). Once G learned this (which was about the same time he had learned about some other issues pushing the ethics envelope), he was out of there. The employment (which didn't result in any actual pay) lasted about 3 hours.

Fowl Fuel Problem

I was refueling the car (the Chevrolet) today and the tank overflowed. No shut off at the valve. No 'ding' from the station tank.

The gas station was a Liberty station which has fuel about 15 cents less than the brand name stations.

Not much gas was spilled on the ground but some got on the bottom of my shoes.

Yeech.

Baltimore Visit

Ann and I were in Baltimore, to bring G to the Cruise Port (1st image).

After that we went to the Babe Ruth Museum. The museum emphasizes the good side of George Herman Ruth. The second image has his family.

One of the exhibits had an analysis of the 1927 batting of Ruth. The analysis estimated that if the dimensions of Yankee Stadium had been similar to a modern baseball stadium (i.e., 410' center field, 360' deep right field) instead of what they were in 1927 at Yankee stadium (450' center field, 390' deep right field), Ruth would have had over 100 homers (of which I think about 75 would have been at home). This claim is breathtaking.

Then we went to the new Seven Mile Market and met Irwin for supper at a new kosher Bistro.

Ann Buys A Nook

The Nook is a competitor to the Kindle.

After looking at both, Ann bought the Nook.

The main advantage of the Kindle 3 is that it weighs less and has more battery life.

The main global advantage of the Nook is that it allows touch and push button control as more or less equals.

But in our small area of the world, the Nook has another advantage. It has a partnership with the Montgomery County library so that you can 'take out a book' on your Nook similarly than you can at the library. Your Nook book file simply disappears after two weeks (or 4 weeks if you renew online).

George Has Minimal Debt

After have graduated law school, a lot of people have a lot of debt. George's is minimal (and he has funds on hand to extinguish that debt).

During law school he used some bonds he was given by Ann's grandmother on her mother's side Nell Byers and Walter Kowal (a friend of Nell's) and my parents, Peter and Lillian Weiss, by funds from Ann and I and from Ann's parents, Jay and Kathleen and from funds in various of his (George's) equity accounts.

G in Post Law School Era

Sometime in January George graduated law school. We are not sure 'when' because the last class is one day and the day the last assignments are graded follows that and the day the final grades are posted follows that but, whatever.

We were proud of George and he spent the next few weeks studying for the Bar Exam (he took UGA for that one).

Then he visited Atlanta (with Mr. Pumpkin) and in a few weeks he will go on a cruise (leaving from the Port of Baltimore). I think he is going to take Alligator on that one.

I think the image is of the back side of the GW Law Center at American U. It came off their web site. The GW Law Center is the oldest law school in DC (established about 1875 or so).
