M's trip to Boston

On 2-15, I went to Boston and back (yes, same day). This was a work trip that went well except for a computer system glitch during a webinar. It was very cold and there was a strong wind. I couldn't make the 6 block walk from the South station to my meeting place without ducking into a store to warm up for a minute. I tried to arrange a short visit with my cousin Ed but somehow it didn't work out.

One interesting thing about the transportation. I had an old Charlie card in my wallet from my previous trip. I got on a bus (the Silver line) at the airport. I put the old card in the reader and it said, "card expired". I told the driver and he motioned to just come aboard. I guess he had a schedule to meet or maybe he was in a good mood.

National Gallery of Art Concert Series

For 69 years the National Gallery of Art has been having concerts. Ann and I went to the 2824th in the series.

We parked at the Grosvenor metrorail station and took the Metrorail downtown and walked from Gallery Place. The concert was four viola and piano pieces. One by JS Bach, one by Schumann, one by James Lee III (who was in the audience) and one by Gheorghe Enescu. The concert was free.

We met the Beckers there and they gave us a ride back to the Grosvenor station.

Some people would call this a cheap near-Valentine day date.

The Wheels of Metrorail Turn Slow But True

About a two years ago when I retired (Sept 2008), I had a paper metrorail card that had about $9.00 on it. Somehow it got demagnetized or something and the fare machines couldn't read it. I asked for an envelop to mail it in to the Metrorail unit that issues replacements for demagnetized cards. I got the replacement card Feb 11, 2011.
