Caught Again

One of us likes to go out on Saturday night and likes to go cross town to the restaurants in Wheaton.

There is a speed camera on Randolph Road near Veirs Mill (fwiw, the same person who got the ticket looked up the history of this latter road and found it was called "Viers Mill" until about 20 years ago; apparently the family spelled their name 'Veirs'). The individual thinks this will be the third time this camera has caught the same driver from this family.

Exercise Goal:
Become Overweight

About two months ago or so I began working out at the JCC fairly regularly.

Since then I have lost a few pounds.

However, I calculated my body mass index today using a web site create by (or for) the National Institutes of Health, and I was at between 30 and 31, which is in the obese area. Another 10 pounds or so of weight loss and I will be definitely in the 'overweight' area. I would have to lose about 30 pounds beyond that to be 'normal'.

Six Overtimes

That's how many overtimes were required for Syracuse to beat Connecticut 127-117 at Madison Sq Garden (in NYCity).

Eight players fouled out and the game ended at about 130 am on March 13) with most of the fans still there.

There was a seven overtime game back in 1981 (Cincinnati vs Bradley) so this was the second longest NCAA Division I game (however that game was played before the national NCAA adoption of the shot clock in 1986 and the national adoption of the 3 point shot in 1985 so the final score in that 1981 game was 75-73).

Neither team shot that well so the score could have been much higher.
Syracuse was 39 for 103 from the field, 9 for 23 from 3 pt land and 40-51 from the line.
Connecticut was 43 for 106, 7 for 35 and 24 for 42 for these same metrics.

We had Chocolate Humantashen This Year

Apparently, they have been on the market for some years but I never had a chocolate one until this year. The JCCof GW was selling the giant sized one for 99 cents each today.

Dead Hawk in the Backyard

On Friday (Mar 6) I noticed we had a dead bird in the backyard. After examining the bird, especially its beak and claws and feathers and looking on the internet, I am convinced it was a hawk.

I'm not sure what species or subspecies of hawk it was but the image to the left is a "Buckeye" hawk and seems pretty close to the animal in our yard.

The hawk was wrapped in several layers of plastic and is going with the trash tomorrow.

Another Dream
New lane at the Swimming Pool

I've been exercising regularly now for about a month. Typically I use the low impact aerobic equipment for a while (during which I read and watch TV), then the resistance equipment (watch TV), then I swim a few laps.

In the swimming pool, there are typically dividers giving a few lanes to "slow" and a few lanes to "medium" and a few lanes to "fast".

I had also just recently had a conversation with Bill Tripplet (an employee of a Federal agency who hired a contractor who hired me do some work) who swims 50 laps during exercise. I had asked him how he had stand the tedium of this kind of back and forth with no sensory feedback.

I my dream, there were now four dividers, the three mentioned previously and one called "pythons". I guess this made for a more interesting swim than just doing laps.

The Flip Flop Danger

We had a bit of snow earlier today (then it stopped and melted and now its snowing again). During the snow free part of the day I went to the gym at the Jewish Community Center.

On the way to the gym I heard a piece of a conversation,

A mom to a 6-8 yr old: "Now put your shoes on, you remember how cold you got the last time you went in the snow wearing your flip flops".

6-8 yr old: "Come on. Why can't I have some fun."

I thought of sticking around and seeing how this conversation turned out but then decided to go directly to the gym and get my exercise before it started snowing again.
