Intestinal Flu and Dreams

Ann got a case of intestinal flu on Sunday. I came down with it yesterday.

One of the things you do when you have the flu is stay in bed and one of things you do in bed is dream.

I had a series of dreams that there were a lot of animals in the back yard and Ann kept calling for me to chase them away. Not just the exotic types in the images but also the kind we have a lot of normally, deer and rabbits.

I Finally Gave Up and Did It

Since I am now doing work as a consultant and have a few meetings coming up, I broke down and did a business card.

The image on the left shows what the front of the card looks like.

It has a 2009 calendar on the back.

Snow In Vegas

At one time I was planning to be in Las Vegas this week.

However, that trip was postponed. Thus I missed the historic Dec 2008 Las Vegas snow event. They had about 4" of snow at the airport (less on the strip; more southeast of the city). This was the biggest December snowstorm ever in the city's history according to news accounts.

Blizzard in the N Plains

As the image shows, there is a lot of snow going on.

white on the map is a snow advisory of some type (blizzard, winter storm, etc.), blue is a wind advisory of some type, green is a rain advisory of some type.

This am, I-29 was closed from the Canadian border to the Nebraska border and I-94 was closed from 60 miles east of the MN/ND border to 120 west of the ND/MT border.

Temps are below zero in a lot of this area.

Fortunately the east coast is being spared from this.

Snow in the Big Easy

We, in the DC area have had one snowy day but not enough to complain about.

New Orleans got up to 3" today. It was the earliest measureable snowfall ever and only the 17th time since 1850 that the city has had measurable snow.

The first image is of the city fairgrounds. It was from the Tuscaloosa News Dec 11, 2008.

The second image is from the NOLA paper. It shows the city's trolley. It seems there are no riders. I had a meeting on this street back in the summer and the ridership then was almost as low.

The second image and weather statistics are according to the Times-Picayune.

For what its worth, New Orleans is almost exactly at 30 N Latitude and 90 W Longitude.

Houston, Texas also received snow that day. They are at about exactly 30N, 95W.

Jerusalem, Israel is at 32N, 35E.

Cold Cold Cold but at least we saw some Clydesdale horses

We've had two days of horribly cold weather. Today was in the low 30s with high winds.

But we did see a two Clydesdale horse cart at the local mall. It was giving rides to kids. Santa was in the cart with the kids. Very cute but the horses must have been uncomfortable.

We'll Have It Fixed Today

The additional utility work on our street involved excavation around our waterline. This led to some removal of material under our sidewalk which leaves some of the sidewalk unsupported.

I spoke to a worker today (about 1030 am) who then got Construction Inspector Mike Ballantyne to visit with me outside my house. I pointed out the problem and asked if I should fix it or were they going to fix it.

He responded, "We'll fix it today" and then gave me his card. By 200pm the problem was fixed.

Knicks Score 82 Points in 1st Half

At Madison Sq Garden, the NY Knicks scored 82 in the first half to beat Golden State 138 125 yesterday.

It was the most first half points scored in the NBA in many years, however, Phoenix scored 107 vs Denver on Nov 10, 1990 according to an NBA history website.
