An Interesting Personnel Move

We got home very late yesterday (actually about 130 am) having gone to one of George's friends to get a dvd made of Ann's speach about nutrition (its for a course).

Sometime after I fell asleep I had a dream that Tyra Banks moved into our neighborhood (a few blocks from us on Postoak) and then was selected for the job of coordinator of Jewish Education at Beth Sholom Congregation and Talmud Torah.

This would have made Tyra the supervisor of the current director of youth services Darren Schneider.

I told Beth about this dream and she said something like, "I wonder what his wife (Beth knows her) would have thought of this."

Bengie Molina Hits Home Run but doesn't make it past 1st base.

There was a odd convergence of the aesthetic and the new 'reviewable home run' rule in SF. San Francisco has a stadium (left pictures) where in right field there is a green masonry wall and a green metal roof on top of it. A ball that hits the wall is in play; a ball that hits the roof is a home run. On Sept 26, Bengie Molina (the catcher shown in the picture) hit a line drive that was initially thought to have hit the wall. He stopped at first and was replaced by a pinch runner. Subsequently, one of the Giants, Omar Vizquel said that he heard the ball hit metal and the play was reviewed. The ball was examined and seemed to have some green paint on it and the umpires ruled it a homer (I'm not sure how they distinguished between the green paint of the wall and the green paint of the roof). The play was ruled a home run but the pinch runner was already in the game and scored the run rather than Molina. The Sport's Illustrated write up is here. The Bleacher Report write up is here. An End to Summer

We had about 16 days of dry and mild weather with neither heating nor air conditioning required.

Nice for gardening, nice for sitting in the yard. One type of aster that I planted this spring is doing especially well - unfortunately I don't know the detailed botonical details - it may be a form of the new england aster or a late purple aster but I'm not sure. It has both purple petals and purple center. If it survives the winter (I'm trying to propogate it with cuttings both semi wet and wet environment), I'll put a picture up.

Yesterday we had wind and rain and cool.

Is Lacross the New Cool Sport

I was at the Sports Authority Today getting a chin up bar - I actually will use it as a hang bar to stretch my back muscles and joints to reduce the likelihood of sciatica.

When I got to the check out counter, three people in the line of 5 (including myself) were buying Lacross equipment. Two had rackets and one was buying balls.

Modifying a Recipe

We have a nice recipe for a Caribbean Tilapia dish from one of our friends but it requires use of a Mango and a lot of cutting and so on. I wanted to make a Tilapia dish but didn't want to go through the trouble. So I doctored the recipe and used a portion of a cantaloupe (the innards and some of the fruit flesh) and a red pepper as the base for the marinate.

Seemed to come out pretty good but the sauce didn't make a good jell like it did with the other recipe.

Dreamt
of
this











I had two dreams last night. In the first dream I had a job leading a team of literary critics. We were reviewing a book that was about the personality conflicts in management teams and it turned out we had the same personality conflicts in our literary team. In the second dream, I was operating a bed and breakfast hotel and our marketing was based on the fact that for breakfast you could have three types of steak while watching cartoons on two large flat screen TVs. I guess there is a reason why some market niches aren't filled.

Last Night 90210

This show was so bad that by the end of it I was hoping the universe would implode and end it all.

The school principal lives in a mansion. The popular 17 year old girl is so obviously older it isn't funny. The popular guy has a learjet at his disposal. The West Beverly High School has a lacrosse team. Kelly is a guidance councilor trying to seduce the new principal - Brenda shows up to be supportive.

Last Day as a Career Civil Servant

The poster at the left was used at my retirement party.

I have a retirement blog with a number of post.

I have one more full paycheck then a partial paycheck; then the annuity check.

Two Players Hit for the Cycle on same day.

Adrian Beltre of the Mariners (being head slapped) was one of two players who hit for the cycle yesterday. Scott Drew of Arizona also hit for the cycle. Both players were 5 for 5 in the game.

Back on Sept 17, 1920, Bobby Veach of the Detroit Tigers and George Burns of the New York Giants both hit for the cycle.
