Dreams about a cat and a Gay Staples

Ann dreamt (beteen 17th and 18th) that our cat, Soda, could talk. Only one syllable at a time (e.g., yeah, no). Limited but much facilitated pet care. The same night I dreamt that Staples (the office store) had opened a bar in each store but that each bar was a gay bar. I dreamt the customers there eyed me as I made copies.

An E-Bay Story - Someone is Banned

G purchased an item at ebay. The seller advertised the product (DVD set of 7 seasons of ST-DS9) as original, not copies, not bootlegged. When G got them it was obvious the DVDs were pirated content. The seller had been banned from ebay about 3 days after the transaction. G expects to get back about 85% of his money (and return the pirated DVDs).

The Great Blogger Scare of March 2006

Betsy (of Polypundit fame) sent Glen Reynolds (of Instapundit fame) the following on March 16, 2006

---------------

STOLEN BLOG ALERT: Betsy Newmark emails:

Dear Glenn,

I'm writing you because you seem to have a finger on the pulse of the blogger world and maybe know some way to help me or at least to get the word out so that maybe Blogger will help me.

My blog disappeared from Blogger some time Tuesday. All I ge is a message that my blog wasn't found on their server. When I go to my Edit page, it doesn't show Betsy's Page as one of my blogs anymore. It's as if my identity was erased.

I just get this very irritating message
"The blog you were looking for was not found." It doesn't show up on my dashboard at all.

Now, somebody has started a blog using my address and hijacked it. This is not me, but it is my URL. How despicable is that?

-----------------------------------

note she has the same server as me. What happened was the blogger was fixing their server and was out for a few days but blogger doesn't understand how to communicate with its customers.

Here is what blogger status said on its website

Currently photo uploading is not working for FTP users. We are aware of the problem and should have a fix within a few hours. We apologize for the inconvenience.

Update (4:10pm) : This has been fixed. Thank you for your patience.

Unfortunately, we have to do some maintenance on one of our filers today from 9 am to 9:40 am PST. Some blogs will be inaccessible while this is going on. Everyone is able to publish, however, regardless of whether or not the blog is down for maintenance.

We apologize to those blog owners who are affected by this.

Update: This maintenance is now complete.

We’re doing some maintenance on one of our Blog*Spot servers. Some blogs will be inaccessible while this is going on. Everyone is able to publish, however, regardless of whether or not the blog is down for maintenance.

We apologize to those blog owners who are affected by this. This partial outage is necessary to fix some of the transient Blog*Spot problems that have popped up recently.

Update: The maintenance is complete. Posted by Pete at 12:32 PST

basically what they said was either untrue or drivel.

But as of 1100 pm tonite, it was all fixed.

a Letter from the IRS

According to the IRS, Beth owes about $6500. The main reason is the way Smith Barney reported a redemption of a $30k municipal bond to the IRS. Also, I could have probably cleared this up in her return if I would have realized the problem. Unfortunately, the burden of proof is on the taxpayer. I will need some help from Dade County, Fla on this one.

G sees a Coyote

G was coming from class to the parking lot at College Park. He saw an animal he didn't recognize. He thought it was some sort of dog. Later we looked through an article on Coyotes in the Washington Post Magazine. These animals are establishing themselves in the area. The key things to look for in Coyotes is that their ears are always up and their tail is always down.
That's what I saw" said G.

Getting the Jewish Consumer

I overheard a conversation at Shopper's food warehouse (SFW) today between two SFW personnel. One was instructing the other about the Matzoh display.

------------
Instructor: "So, you have to make sure the Matzoh boxes are stacked high enough for the costumer to see - at least your waist level, preferrably shoulder."

Instructee: "Why's that?"

Instructor: "Because the Jewish shopper will stop and at least look at the display and if they look they will buy the products on the shelves."

Instructee: "So I should go by the display each morning?

Instructor: "Three times a day. We don't want the people at Koshur Mart to come by and take our matzoh just to lower the level."
--------------

I had no idea things were as competitive as they obviously are in the Passover mechandise department.

Another bizarre dream - Psalm 145

I dreamt (march 10)that an archeological find had shown that two words in Psalm 145 (aka the Ashrai.. although the first two lines are not from 145) were wrong. In my dream, Beth Sholom's former assistant Rabbi, Eli Krimsky was in charge of national effort to past in corrections. He came to our synagogue and we had a lot of people pasting over the two words (psalm 145 is probably in at least 9 places in the weekday and sabbath prayer book).

Oddly enough, on march 11, there was a scribal anomaly in Deut 25:18 (which is a special reading for the Sabbath before Purim). Two words were too close together. Am I a prophet?

Some George News (about a shotgun and one about a traffic ticket)

from George (with minor changes for IM spellings, abbreviations, etc.)

Shotgun story: I [G] was driving on a road near UMD and saw two girls pushing a car, so I pulled over to help. Their car was in the middle of a road so I helped push it into a driveway. While I was trying to figure out what was wrong with their car (turns out the alternator had died and we had to push it a few blocks to their friends house who was a mechanic)...the owner of the driveway came out shouting about how people were always leaving stolen cars in their driveway. (The owners of the lot had a huge corner lot good for dumping stuff)
This lady who owned the property was visibly upset with people with cars on her driveway AND WAS WEILDING A SHOTGUN!!!!! So we moved the car around the corner before we pushed it to the mechanic's house. (and before the shotgun lady started shooting)

Expunging story: In 2000 I got probation before judgment for two moving violations. This means you get a criminal record but no driving record so you don’t get points on your license and thus it didn’t affect insurance.
Recently however I thought it would be good to get the criminal record expunged since I could then say I had no record if I ever got another ticket.
I filed for expungement. Unfortunate, in MD only imprisonable offenses are currently expungeable. So the States attorney served me with a petition to deny expungement and gave the judge an order that he could sign to deny the expunging. Unfortunately for the States attorney, the states attorney did not do this within their 30 day limit and I will appeal.... developing

Car back from Repair - Windshield cracked

I picked up the Hyundai today at the repair shop, True 2 Form. It had been there since Feb 4 or so (it was at another place first). They brought the car around to the front. I got in. There was a crack in the windshield. Somehow they hadn't noticed. How on earth could they not notice!!!

They promised that since it was their fault, they would come to our house and replace the windshield. We'll see how long that takes.
