Comic Book Research on Govt Time

I've been on a task force to make certain work force allocation recommendation. One concept I came up with to support some of the recommendations was to more fully utilize the flexibility of the workforce (e.g., people in different locations working together by video, separating tasks and having on site contractors do them, use of joint field/HQ teams). I called this FLEXFORCE. To illustrate the concept in the task force report, I went through on line issues of the Fantastic Four because Captain Fantastic had super elasticity and then had some minor work done to one of the cover issues. Relatively fun hour.

SAC Puts deposit down on Nationals season tickets

The first person I know to buy tickets for the new baseball team (presumed to be called the Nationals, which was what the Senators were called before 1955) was Stanley Cohen. He got the upperdeck down the line kind which went for about $19/game.

Ann Remembers the Password

We were early to the late Maariv tonite and the door wasn't unlocked. Ann used to use the password a year or two ago and she remembered it. They hadn't changed it (it has a relationship to the first sentence of the scroll of Ester).

Bonds MVP

Yesterday, Barry Bonds won the MVP in the NL at age 40. He had a remarkable year. On the bad side, his agent was convicted of steroid distribution and there is someone testifying that Bonds took some. On the plus side, he set a record .609 on base percentage which is over 100 points higher than anyone else (Bonds has been in the high 500s). His 232 walks set another record. His .362 BA and .812 slugging led the league. He hit 45 HRs in 373 at bats.

G in Boston

George visited Boston for the first time Nov 12-14. He took one of the deep discount buses there (apparently there are currently about 4 such companies that serve the DC-NY-Bos corridor - and the drivers even help you find another company if their bus is full) and took a train back. He stayed in the vicinity of Brandreis U.

42 and 24

Roger Clemens (Houston) won the Cy Young award in the NL at the age of 42. His record of 18-4 was good enough to overcome the fact that his ERA was significantly higher than that of Randy Johnson (AZ). That was yesterday.

Today, the low temperature at Dulles was 24F which sets a new daily record minimum.

Meetings .... More Meetings (and a lost key)

M had meetings today from 900-1030 and then from 1130-430. Yuck.

Tomorrow meetings are scheduled from 1100 to 430 (actually one is scheduled from 1100-1200 and one is scheduled from 1115-430 so I'll duck out early from meeting #1).

My mind was a bit muddled by the time I got home today and I dropped my house key in the grass near the house. My across the street neighbor had a flashlight and I found the key after about a 15 minute search.

Once in a Bugs Bunny cartoon, Daffy was training Elmer to use a gun to get Bugs but each time Bugs would trick Elmer into shooting Daffy.

The first time Daffy said to Elmer, "Meeting".

After the second, Daffy put his arm around Elmer. Elmer said, "More Meetings?"

"More Meetings" responded Daffy.

Transit System

Yesterday there was a train collision on the transit line I use. So on trip home I used an alternate transit line (which went OK) and met a bus that would go near my house (also went OK). Unfortunately, there was a car accident on Viers Mill Road which blocked both lanes and the bus was stuck for quite a while. It was about a 2 hour commute.

The next day, I listened to the local channel. The system was working but with problems. The transit line was running 8 car trains instead of 6 and 4 car trains because the headways would be less frequent since there was double tracking near the station where the train collision had been. I boarded a train to downtown (this went fine). The train went two stops then announced that there were 4 trains ahead of them that were bunched near two downtown stations and that bus shuttle service was going to be used to bridge between two stations. So I got out of the train and took the next train back home.
